Off-grid, but fully connected

Located in the majestic redwood forests of Marin, CA, Denizen Park is the flagship launch location for the Archetype Pod. The park is fully self sufficient, generating all of the power required from solar energy, recycling greywater for irrigation, and composting waste.

A place for reflection

Situated beneath a massive panoramic window in the Archetype Pod, the Utilities Bench serves as a comfortable perch for contemplative thinking. Functional features like storage and power outlets maximize the usability of the space. All of the critical utilities for the pod are hidden behind the bench's sculpted maple facade, including IT equipment, electrical and HVAC systems and a robotic vacuum.

Utilities bench design and build

I personally took the Utilities Bench from concept to production, including the fabrication and launch of the first two units out of the Denizen factory in Sea Ranch, CA. Designed in Fusion360 and setup in Fusion CAM, the entire unit was built in house using CNC cut/carved maple and hand sewn premium felt upholstery.

Denizen Park design and build

Denizen Park is located on a mountain top, deep in the redwoods. No utilities were available on site, so by necessity the site is fully self sufficient. I designed the utilities module around a standard 10ft shipping container and a 4.8kW solar array. The ultra light space frame structure is inspired by the colonization of exoplanets and the color palette and forms reference the aesthetic of the Archetype Pod.

Water, electricity, and tools for the site are stored in the shipping container, and the bathroom is equipped with hot running water and a state-of-the-art ultra low water consumption composting toilet system.
